Ascension and its Repercussions

Progressing as a mage is predicated on three main requisites: MAG primary, magic skill, and attunement. MAG primary, because it caps all skills underneath, must be raised progressively in order to improve the caster’s magic skill and attunement. But, this process will not come without its consequences. MAG primary represents the presence of magicite in the corporeal form of the caster and as magicite builds up in the body of the caster, they will become more and more sickly because of its presence. Every level that the mage raises their magic primary statistic above 4, the cap for all three of their physical statistics (strength, agility, and constitution), will lower by one. Below is a table to assist characters in determining if they have adjusted their primary statistics correctly.

Listed across the top is the original primary statistic in strength, agility, or constitution that the character had. Listed across the side is the magic primary statistic the mage currently has. The numbers listed at the intersections represent what the adjusted strength, agility, or constitution primaries should be for that character after their caps have dropped. Ranks 11 and 12 are listed for the case that the character has taken the feat Uncanny.

A mage will also want to raise their magic skill continually, given that it is what they roll in order to determine success or failure on any given spell. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the mage will need to raise their attunement. The mage’s attunement must be at least equal to or greater than the bolded ranks listed in the spell guides in order to purchase that rank. Thus if a rank reads 4 beside it, the mage must have at least attunement at 4 in order to purchase it and if it read 13 they would have to have attunement at 13.
