Regions, Encounters, and Ecosystems

Introduction

This document should be used in conjunction with 98b. Creatures and 100b. Nyra Map (Region Labels). What are listed here are the biomes, flora, and fauna of each region, as well as what sorts of materials occur naturally there, and a listed of pre-generated encounters. The pre-generated encounters are there for the convenience of the GM and should be decided by rolling a d20 when the GM wants the players to experience some interruption of travel. Following is the rubric for the document:

Regions

Region 2: Zachariah’s Steppe

This region is quite inhospitable to settlement, consisting of dry and windswept steppe, hardly able to even sustain vegetation. However, humans have established cities here nonetheless, largely for the abundance of fishing in the northern sea. Also, because of their distance from Onus, the occurrence of Famulus raids is low, allowing the sea trade to safely prosper. Ultimately, even though these cities are not seen as ideal destinations, the people that are there live free lives, across a mountain range and a perilous journey away from the seat of power in Farhaven.

Environmental Effect: 1 Heat Damage to anyone wearing Medium armor or above, per thirty minutes.

Region 3: Kedrin Forests

This forest is the ancestral home of the humans and the vast majority of their cities are settled here, most noteworthy among them being Farhaven, the human capital. And, although the creatures that co-exist with them in the Kedrin forests are as horrifying as anywhere else, the vegetation and diversity of life offer up a bounty of natural resources, including food, fuel, and medicine. The denizens thus have a love/hate relationship with the region, regarding it as a nurturing mother and a cruel torturer in equal measure.

Region 4: Daegus Swamps

This region is often considered one of the worst that humans have decided to settle on Lazvar. The boggy ground is almost impossible to build on, save some solid stretches such as Quark, and the stilt cities which are erected in its midst are all clogged with an oppressive humidity, high heat, and rotting stench. Long ago these areas were settled as hideouts for the criminal underlords of the continent and they have largely changed hands between that same set of humans ever since.

Region 5: Zerus Treescape

Towering trees of all varieties stretch into the sky, their thick foliage creating a canopy which prevents most light from reaching the forest floor. The Zerus Treescape has been known since ancient times to the humans, but was not settled until the modern era due to the sheer density of flora and the viciousness of the indigenous creatures. The most significant city settled in this region is Blaire, which lies on the coastline and is the main hub for trade with Faydorn and the second largest city on Lazvar. This region, nonetheless, still remains mostly unexplored and is feared by the denizens to the north.

Region 7: The Highland Tundra

The Highland Tundra is the home to all three of the highlander nations; the Braggos, the Empire of G’ok, and the Peridar, although only the Empire of G’ok lies solely within its entirety. These unforgiving wastes have led to horrific creatures and formidable warriors and those who survive do so with great trepidation. Little vegetation grows in this region, forcing the creatures to predate each other for sustenance.

Environmental Effect: 2 Cold Damage per thirty minutes.

Region 8: Dead Flats

The Dead Flats are a barren wasteland, the cracked ground stretching for miles, only populated by sparse vegetation. Here the animals that exist must vie for a brutal supremacy, warding off most sentient species from settling here. There are, however, some Kaze settlements in the southern portion and a substantial portion of the Braggos nation of Highlanders in the northern portion.

Region 9: Liren Forest

This region is one of the oldest growth forests on the planet, the Goda trees that it is known for towering into the sky, their canopies almost blocking the floor from light. The Liren Forest is host to a staggering variety of different organisms, all of which are interconnected in a delicate ecosystem. The Ethakkra have settled almost every one of their cities in this region, having arisen long, long ago as a primitive species in its borders.

Region 10: The Torrid Expanses

The Torrid Expanses are vast deserts which, had the Utwesh not been driven into them long ago, would not likely be settled by any sentient species. The day times are sweltering and the nights are frigid. The creatures that have developed here are horrors and little vegetation exists to thrive off of otherwise. The Utwesh who have settled here lead difficult lives.
