World History at a Glance

15,000 AA (50,000 ago) - Beginning of Ante Adventu

Ponderan society as it is now properly recognized begins to develop after thousands of years of gradual evolution on Onus.

0 DA (35,000 years ago) - Beginning of Deorum Adventu

The Gods arrive to Nyra and happen upon the Ponderan who have already developed a fully functioning society. This year is remembered by the Ponderan as the year zero on their calendar. This same calendar continues in use among the Humans, the Famulus, and the Kalnis. However, most of these species have no popular recollection of this event.

A significant population of Humans has resulted from the interbreeding of Ponderan and Famulus. Humans are neither Ponderan nor Famulus. The law cannot determine their deserved treatment. This leads to oppressive implementation in many occasions. The Humans are quickly viewed as a social problem arising from poor ethical hygiene. Many Ponderan think that other Ponderan never should have produced babies with Famulus. Other cannot be bothered to care.

35,000 DA (3500 years ago)

The so-called "Human Question" has now been used as a bludgeon for several hundred years. Treatment of Humans is deeply unequal and inconsistent. The Ponderan, having disputed for several centuries on the the role of Humans in their society, choose to conduct The Great Experiment by exiling all living Humans to the Lazvarian continent to determine their mettle when pitted against nature.

Sarkin-Human War. As the Humans begin colonizing Lazvar proper, they encounter the Sarkin for the first time. This marks the beginning of skirmishes which will escalate for years to come. However, Human reactions are not universal. What would later become the Signums view the Sarkin as beasts to be slain, resenting that the Sarkin have built cities in the trees they wish to chop for lumber. The social Human dominators who would go on to form the Lordships reaction to the Sarkin is best characterized as a desire for genocide or complete banishment. The walled-cities, however, have a neutral opinion of the Sarkin and allow their limited participation if they become citizens; which means rejecting their old ways of life to assimilate into Human interpersonality and social structures. Tensions nonetheless flourish even here and conflict takes place within this era alongside Human colonization across middle Lazvar.

The Utwesh ways are overtaken by the Ethakkra.

The first Famulus revolt takes place on Onus. It is brutally suppressed. The Famulus are defeated and some flee Onus to Lazvar.

Sarkin discover steam technology.

The first substantial population of Kalnis result from the interbreeding of Humans and Famulus on Lazvar. These children, having no relation to old stereotypes, are free to explore new preconceptions. This growing population straddles the cultural norms of the Famulus and the Humans, allowing them to live in both worlds, but to be not entirely accepted by either. Many Kalnis, upon maturity, take up jobs in physical labor. Often Kalnis born in the Free Cities or the burgeoning Lordships instead flee to the Signums.

Sarkin Cultural Revolution. The Sarkin begin incorporating their councils into larger and larger federations progressively over the following several decades. This leads to rapid progress.

Famulus-Human War. The Humans retain more of the Ponderan culture than the Famulus, viewing the Famulus as brutes and pack animals. Famulus also do not make particularly good cohabitators with the Humans, as they are constantly vying against the Humans for territory. These Famulus, having survived a civil war with the Ponderan, are cutthroat in their approach. Much blood is spilled trying to maintain some unbothered colony for the Famulus.

An independence movement gains traction among the Kalnis diaspora on Lazvar and some groups of them flee to northern Faydorn. Some also go north to the Idolon Frost, though few remain there due to sparse community support and frigid conditions.

Kalnis society as it is currently recognized begins in what is now called the Highland Tundra. Some migrate further south and settle the wastes north of the Faydorn mountain ranges.

Humans win the Famulus-Human War, which evolves into genocide. The Humans stomp out almost every last Famulus colony, forcing enormous swaths of the Famulus to flee the continent. The Famulus, many of them already having been boat-dwelling people, begin the familiar modern behavior of raiding Human coastlines and then sailing away to some unknown location.

Ethakkra-Kaze War ends in stalemate.
