Difficulty Thresholds
One of the fundamental mechanics of Nyra is the concept of difficulty thresholds. Depending on the challenge of the task at hand, a skill may call for more challenging tests than others. This is represented through Easy, Normal, Difficult, Impossible, and Critical checks. Easy difficulty checks are rare, but when they are called for, you may double your skill ranking for purposes of deciding success or failure on your check. Normal difficulty checks are much more common, calculating success or failure based upon effective skill rank alone. Difficult checks are those that require you to roll at half skill proficiency in order to succeed. Impossible checks are those which must be rolled below ¼ of the character’s skill rank. And lastly, very uncommon, are what are called Critical checks, wherein a character must roll a 1 in order to succeed.
